Introduction

Welcome to Dental Information homepage, part of the Doctors Corner website!
Good dental health is vital to both physical and emotional well being for most people.

With advances in knowlege and technolgy dental health is better now than at any time in the past . Examples include public awareness of the importance of preventative measures (fluoridated water, regular brushing and routine dental checkups), improved dental materials allowing less invasive and earlier intervention, and improved dental tools and techniques.

Despite the enormous improvements in dental health during the past century preventable dental disease still remains an important problem in the United States.

Much of the information provided is obtained from outside sources. Neither this site nor other sites can be used for self diagnosis or treatment of dental conditions. Treatment and diagnosis of dental disease must be done by a licensed Dentist.

Dental Anatomy

Primary teeth: Are also called deciduous, milk or baby teeth. These teeth are smaller and whiter than permanent teeth. There are twenty primary teeth. Ten are in the lower jaw bone and ten in the upper mouth. The lower jaw bone is called the mandible while the bone supporting upper teeth is called the maxilla.

Permanent teeth: Erupt starting at six years of age. By age twelve all twenty primary teeth have been replaced with 28 permanent teeth in place. The last 4 teeth, the 3rd molars (or wisdom teeth) may erupt any time after this or never.
